TIME TO MOVE!

Let's face it, Blogger's kinda getting old. It's good, but it's just... no one uses it any more. Sorry.

So, I want to move out. Where to go? Well, right now it's basically WordPress or Tumblr. They're both great, but Tumblr is just too much of a social network for me. So, WordPress it is. It looks cool, and I found an awesome template.

Also, NAME CHANGE! I thought it 'Spawn Camp' is good. You want to change that? Too bad, already decided.

So, 3, 2, 1, TTTRRRRRAAAAAANNNNNSSSSFFFFOOORRRMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, that was cheesy.

Anyway, portal here.

*Portal Gun Sound Effect*

GEDDIT?

Ok, fine, it's here: BLUE PORTAL

Look, I like portal jokes.

The cake is a lie.

Still funny right?

Right?

right?

rite?

Right.

LIVESTREAM NOW!

If you want to watch me make a game, just tune into my livestream! It is only today, so join now!

A game of Osmos with Facebook and Disney

When I search 'facebook vs disney' then it isn't suggested, and none of the pages are relevant to that. The first one that comes up is Disney's Facebook page. I think that I need some work here. First of all, what I mean by this battle is: one of them will eventually buy the other. Both Facebook and Disney have been fighting over companies, and once one of them reaches a big point, they'll eat each other. It's like an economical game of Osmos.

So why do I think this? Well, first of all, look what they've bought already. Facebook has bought the Oculus Rift, which is, for those of you who don't know, a device which you put on your head over your eyes, and it projects a different world to you. With this you can make amazing, realistic experiences, as turning your head makes the player charterer look the same way as you. So what does Facebook want with it? Well, they think that ‘Immersive gaming will be the first, and Oculus already has big plans here that won’t be changing and we hope to accelerate. The Rift is highly anticipated by the gaming community, and there’s a lot of interest from developers in building for this platform’. This has actually affected Minecraft, as they were going to add Oculus support, but gave it up as Notch tweeted: 'We were in talks about maybe bringing a version of Minecraft to Oculus. I just cancelled that deal. Facebook creeps me out.'
On the Disney side of things, they have bought Maker Studio, an MCN (which stands for multi channel network). An MCN works by every YouTube channel on said network shares benefits such as lawyers so that they can use copyrighted materiel. Maker Studio is a HUGE network, with channels such as Epic Rap Battles of History (ERBH), The Platform and even PEWDIEPIE. Yeah. This means that Disney gets to advertise on their channels. It's pretty crazy.

So while Swedish developers who think pigs are cuboids shy away from cutting edge technology and bros get worried about whether or not Pewdiepie will break into song in the middle of Amnesia, please take the time to vote on who you think will win the war. The poll is on the left sidebar. Oh, and my guess? Disney. They want to advertise EVERYWHERE. And they bought Star Wars.

A message

I have about a minute to write this so here it is. Sorry I can't post today. Wait a second...

It's your own fault, you installed the pop-ups. Right?

Ok, everyone has fallen victim to using an installer and getting a REALLY annoying barnacle attached to their perfect software. And by barnacle I mean that thing that sees a word like holiday and turns it into a link to holiday things GODDAMIT IT DID IT! Anyway, jokes aside, these things are real and as well as being annoying, they probably contain some glitchy viruses. I found this software that you might be interested in called 'Should I Remove It?', and it's really helped me. The way it works is simple, it tells you what software lots of people uninstall, so you get a rough idea of whether you should remove it or not. For example, I opened it up today and it showed me that some software was screwing up my computer. I removed it from in the software and Cillet Bang! Bang, and the dirt is gone! Here's the download!

Godus is BACK

I don't know how many people have heard of Godus, but for those of you who don't know, it is a god game in development where you have to sculpt the landscape for people to settle. I gave up playing it months ago, because it SUCKED. It was a complete clickfest. There was no goal. There was no intensive. The first 10 mins was the only good part. There never updated it
So why am I talking about it? Because they updated it. And it's awesome now. Basically, the developers realized the problems and fixed them. There are really nice drag controls, the timeline system tells you what to do and the leash is really useful. If you want to try the update or are yet to get Godus, here is the link. Happy sculpting!

Annoying spam emails sent to you every day minus the annoying spam.

Wise Geek. It has the word geek in it, so it's awesome. Wise Geek is just like one of the email services that you signed up for without knowing it 5 months ago that joined the party of 100 email 'newsletters' that you still haven't unsubscribed to even though you said that you will do it yesterday and the day before. The only difference is, you don't want to unsubscribe. It's like one of those fact a day things, but a lot cooler. For example, here is the one that I received today:

Do Many NFL Players Go Bankrupt?

Within two years after finishing their careers, about 78% of NFL players go
bankrupt.

The average yearly salary for National Football League (NFL) players is
more than $1 million US Dollars (USD), but NFL players have one of the
highest bankruptcy rates of any profession. About 78% of NFL players go
bankrupt within two years after retirement. One factor is thought to be a
high divorce rate, which is estimated to range from 60% to 80% of
professional athletes and typically occurs after retirement, when there is
no longer the same income stream. Another factor is thought to be players
investing their funds in fraudulent or risky ventures. Professional
football players also have an average career span of just 3.5 years and can
be cut from teams after injuries — often losing any salary they were due
to earn in future seasons — whereas athletes in some other sports, such
as Major League Baseball, typically have fully guaranteed contracts.

Yesterday I found out why cats are so flexible, and the day before that I found out when football helmets became mandatory. Pretty cool. Check them out!

Minecraft with guns. And not a rip off of Minecraft.

Doom/Quake/Goldeneye (take your pick) style games are awesome. But when you play, don't you just wish that you were designing the levels? Me neither, but Blowfish Studios thinks otherwise. They made an awesome game called Gunscape, and are currently Kickstarting it. And now that I think about what you could do with that, I whole heartedly think you should to.

The creator is based on themes, which are sets of assets like NPCs and blocks. For example, there's your classic sci-fi and stuff, but there's also things like classic doom and I think in the trailer I even saw a western! Anyway, with this themes (which you can combine), you can make anything from co-op campaigns to huge team on team fire fights with buttons that release dinosaurs onto your opponents. Rawr.

I AM INVADER.

So, yesterday I talked about Invader, and if you haven't read about him yet then here is the link. Anyway, I thought the art was awesome, and I'm going to make one on my garden wall! I'm going to do a Boo from Mario that has his eyes shut because you're looking at him, with a pale blue background. I'm gonna have to tell everyone that when you aren't looking at him he follows you. I'm looking for good materials to do it with, like what kind of tiles and stuff
. Meanwhile, here's my mockup. I'll show you when I'm done...

The invaders came in wave by wave...

Invader is a French artist I discovered last night. What he does is simple: he 'invades' cities by putting mosaics of 8-bit things, mainly his take on Space Invaders, but he also does other things. Today I started hunting them down, and found 6 in London. My favourite one is to the right, and I might put a gallery of them on the left. They're coming for you...

Bleep. Bloop. Blaap?

The Atari 2600 was a hugely important console, and even when they made a new one the Atari 2600 destroyed it. In fact, the Atari 2600 was so awesome, most people just call it 'The Atari'. Anyway, I recently picked up an Atari Flashback 4. It's an Atari 2600 that doesn't run on cartridges, but instead it has 75 pre-installed games, which are all pretty good. And the best part? It's £50. Think about that for a bit. A console, which normally is about £75, coming with 75 games and two limited edition wireless controllers. Oh, and a poster if you, like me, have a quest to completely cover your bedroom walls.

Pixels are art.

I love pixel art, and most people who can be bothered to read this probably do. Great indie titles have come out of it, but remember 'Ye Olde Days', where pixel art didn't exist for games? That was because it had to be pixelated. Then again, 10 years from now, we'll probably call Skyrim pixelated.

Anyway, Jeremy Williams, a pixel art master, has created a a grid of 256 ultra-bright LED pixels which has 5 days left on the Kickstarter, which he calls the Game Frame. You display pixel art on it, and because it's electronic (no shit), then you can also make animations. It also comes with some pre-installed art by E-Boy! Oh yeah, and you can edit the coding to make games like Brick Breaker, which is again, pre-installed. It's a simple idea, but it looks seriously awesome. If you want to check it out, then here is the link

IT'S UNDER 9000!

Highscores and speed-runs have always been SUPER important to the community. But one thing that hardly anyone ever looks into is: what is the lowest score manageable? NotEntirelySure managed to answer this question for Super Mario Bros on the NES.

500 is a TINY score. Here's how he did it:

  • Miss all the coins, powerups and enemies. Ok, that's pretty obvious.
  • Use thewarp pipes. Again, obvious.
  • At the flag pole, jump onto the block below the pole, but don't touch the pole. When the timer displays 000, quickly move right. You should get only 100 points for that level.
  • On 8-1, there is a glitch where you need to walljump. It is extremely hard to pull off, and this is what will ruin you run again and again.

8 for the price of 1

So, if I shouted Steam in a public place, half of the people would think I'm insane, a quarter would think 'punk', but the gaming quarter would think 'Valve' or 'Games' or something else in that field. But no one has any idea what a Humble Bundle is! These guys deserve WAY more recognition than they're given. The way Humble Bundles work is:

  1. Choose a Humble Bundle that is going on. There are two types, the normal big ones and the weekly ones.
  2. Pay whatever you want for a ton of games!
  3. The clever twist is, paying more than the average gets you MORE games!
  4. A small amount of the money goes to the developers and Humble Bundle, and the rest goes to charity! Or, you can decide the split, so if you want to give all the charity you can do that as well!
So now you should the basic idea. I have bought a ton of these bundles, and my steam library would be much, MUCH smaller if it wasn't for Humble Bundle. For example, I spent £6 pounds on the Humble Indie Bundle 11, and got Antichamber, Beatbuddy: Tale of the Guardians, Dust: An Elysian Tale, FEZ, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, Guacamelee: Gold Edition, Monaco, Starseed Pilgrim and The Swapper. Seriously. Check them out.

If I had an infinite amount of pokéballs

If I had an infinite amount of monkeys on an infinite amount of typewriters, eventually one would write out the complete works of Shakespeare. Well, that's the theory anyway. But humans, well we only need MILLIONS of people to complete a game made for A SINGLE YOUNG CHILD. Anyway, unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard of Twitch Plays Pokémon at least once in the past couple days, but if you haven't, I'll explain. Basically, Twitch TV is a streaming service for video games, so anyone can make a channel and the whole world can watch live. However, someone made a channel that is Pokémon Red being controlled by the viewers. So if you wanted the character to go left, you would type left. The only problem is, everyone else is trying to do the same thing as well. It's not that easy. Anyway, we recently beat the game, which took us 16 days, 7 hours, 50 minutes and 19 seconds. Even better, in a couple hours from when I wrote this, a new game will begin where we will all play Pokemon Gold! Yay...

Dorkly

Most people haven't heard of these guys, and I think more people should, because they are HILARIOUS. These people do hilarious videos about video games, and they actually animate the art assets. If you like them, then subscribe HERE. Here's a video for tasters:

Cover the world brick by brick

Everyone loves Lego. Who doesn't? It's freaking Lego. You just go on to Amazon and... oh. £65 for the 'Ultimate Building Set'. Great. Anyway, I found this awesome website called 'Build with Chrome', that lets you build over Google maps. You just pick a plot, and build something on it. How cool is that? You could make everything awesome (geddit, Lego movie joke)! For example, here is a screenshot of a wave I made in the park down my street:

If you want to make stuff like this, just go to buildwithchrome.com, and to see my wave go to https://www.buildwithchrome.com/#build=S0NLogAQA! Enjoy!
